Editor's Pros & Cons
PROS: The ImageRunner 105 boasts enormous speeds in printing, able to produce 105 pages on a per minute basis (hence the product name), making it one of the fastest printers available in the market. The ImageRunner 105 also produces at the same rate even while utilizing its duplexing capabilities. It uses Laser Dry Electrostatic Transfer for its imaging system and Dry Monocomponent Toner Projection for its developing system. These systems enable the ImageRunner 105 to run and produce prints and copies at incredible speeds. Also built to handle high-volume tasks, the ImageRunner 105 has a 512MB image server memory matched with a 20GB hard disk drive, capable of storing large quantities of workload. The ImageRunner 105 operates with a standard paper capacity of 1,500 sheets for each of its dual front-loading trays and 550 sheets each on its dual front-loading cassettes, and is also able to produce a maximum of 9,999 multiple copies, while its maximum paper capacity is at 7,650 sheets, divided in a 5-way paper supply.
The ImageRunner 105, albeit its huge built, warms up relatively quickly at around 6 minutes. With its dimensions at 54-7/8" x 40-3/4" x 31-3/8" and a weight of 617 lbs., the ImageRunner 105 is truly built to handle printing and copying tasks for large-scale businesses and offices that also rely on speedy results. Customization is also an impressive arsenal of the ImageRunner 105, with an array of options such as paper folding unit, booklet trimmers, finishers and its additional print controller. Its finishers all deliver single and multiposition stapling, which makes for added ease in high-volume tasks.
The ImageRunner 105 has networking support with its 10/100Base-T and USB 2.0. Functionality is also increased with its remote UI support, which enables the ImageRunner 105 to be accessed and run from a user's desktop computer.
The ImageRunner 105's printing resolution is at 2400 x 600 dots per inch, while interpolated resolution is at 1200 x 600. Halftone is at 256 gradations of gray with reduction and enlargement capabilities are at 25% to 400%, which can be done in 1% increments. Copies can be produced at 105 copies per minute (cpm) for letter-type papers while ledger types are produced at 49 cpm. The ImageRunner 105 also has 11" x 17" for its original size, mostly for ledger types that can be fed on the device.
Scanning with the ImageRunner 105 is also quite fast, clocking at 80 pages every minute for letter-types, with an automatic document feeder that has a 100-sheet capacity, or 20 lbs. for its weight equivalent. The ImageRunner 105 is also fitted with a SmartScan page recognition system for orientation correction. Its Universal Send technology also allows distributions of multiple scans to from the device. CONS: Quite expectedly, the ImageRunner 105 comes in at a hefty price, which large offices with high demand for fast and heavy production won't mind paying. This however limits the ImageRunner 105's availability and flexibility among offices and businesses, especially those who have high production demands but do not have the budget to afford the device. The ImageRunner 105 is also not for a novice user, with its intricate multiple functions. Its operation would require a relatively huge amount of time to learn and master.
