Editor's Pros & Cons
PROS:
The Canon ImageRunner 550 digital imaging system has a recommended duty cycle of 200,000 pages or impressions per month. The Image server operates on 2.1 Giga Bytes of memory, and the maximum number of mailboxes is 100. Users can print up to 999 multiple copies. An automatic trayless duplexing feature that takes up to five minutes or less to warm up is available for the digital imaging system. The digital features of copying and printing only requires a large document be scanned once, instead of multiple times trying to get the scan right.
The print and scan resolution of 600 x 600 are sufficient for most businesses; it also facilitates an interpolated resolution of 1,200 x 600 dots per inch. The halftone utilizes 256 gradations of gray. The print and copy-rates for Letter-sized documents averages 55 per minute with the first copy-time taking less than six seconds from the Automatic Document Feeder. Magnification can be adjusted in increments of 1%; the minimum reduction is 25% and the maximum magnification is 400%. There are preset reductions from 78%, 73%, 64%, 50%, and 25%; The preset enlargements are 400%, 200%, 129%, and 121%. Originals acceptable for copying and printing are books, sheets, and three-dimensional items. The maximum-sized document is 11 x 17 inches. As far as paper capacity goes, there are two 550 sheet-trays and two 1,500 sheet-trays; the manual bypass holds 50 sheets. The maximum sheet capacity of 7,650 sheets is more than enough for everyday print jobs.
CONS:
The Canon ImageRunner 550, considered a low-end version of its series, does not contain fax features. Some reviewers have reported problems with the document feeder. Digital copying feature may not look as generous with its shading and contrast. Any node using the printer will have to install the printer drivers, this is not so much as a con but does waste a little time during the installation process. The size of the Canon ImageRunner 550 makes it unsuitable for a desktop or credenza. It weighs an astonishing 553 pounds; that is half the weight of a small car. INK/TONER NEEDS:
The black GPR-1 toner yields 33,000 pages based on 6% coverage. The GPR-7 drum yields 5,000,000 impressions or pages. The black toner is used to introduce the powder to create a xerographic image. The drum is used to convey an image to a document. The toner will stick to the drum and then project an image to a sheet. |
