Editor's Review
Gestetner 2212 by Geoff Coldiron 08/24/2010 OVERVIEW: The Gestetner 2212 is a robust, durable black and white digital imaging system that is designed and built to withstand even the most ruthlessly large volume print jobs. This copier comes with a number of configuration and customization options and is extremely user friendly and easy to use. With a virtually limitless list of upgrade and expansion options, this copier is designed to fit almost any office need while producing professional quality and reasonable speed.
Editor's Pros & Cons
PROS: This digital copier can produce a resolution of 600x600 dots per inch, creating a crisp, professional-looking black and white document that is suitable for any business need. The Gestetner 2212 boasts a reasonable printing speed of 22 pages per minute. The built-in, onboard memory allows for storage of scanned documents without the need for a PC. These images can be stored indefinitely, as on a computer hard drive, and can be accessed and reproduced at any time, making production of more commonly used office documents such as brochures and forms easy and convenient. Gestetner 2212 firmware includes customization and optimization features that accommodate many types of image manipulation capabilities such as rotation, scaling and negative reversal. These features can be automated or implemented manually. The LCD touch screen interface contains menu options that permit the user to reduce the size of documents and condense them onto a single page, eliminating excess paper usage and decreasing print times, resulting in overall cost and man hour savings. Page numbers and date stamps can be added to all scanned and copied material, either automatically or through manual user input, and can be incorporated into all printed output to provide a unique look. The extra-large LCD touch panel also provides ease of navigation through menu options and features, and a full QWERTY keyboard allows for easy typing, data entry and operation of the unit's many hardware features for job customization, optimization and performance. A 1000 sheet expansion tray with a 50 sheet stapling capacity can be purchased as an upgrade, as well as a 500 sheet tray with a 30 sheet stapling capacity. Other additions include a 2000 sheet paper tray and a 2 x 500 sheet paper bank. Combining these features makes this digital imaging system one of the most versatile and productive solution to virtually any large office need. Scanned images can be reduced to as little as 25% of the original and blown up to as much as 400%. The warm up time is a quick 15 seconds and the maximum media size that can be accommodated is 11 x 17 in (legal size). Media types that are accepted include plain paper, bulk objects such as books, and solid objects. The Gestetner 2212 has a dimensional footprint that is small enough to fit into the place of any other large office copier. CONS: This model comes without the capability of duplex printing, limiting this copier to one-sided printing only. The target market for the Gestetner 2212 is large offices with high output demand. Small and medium business and home use would be expensive and extremely impractical, as this copier's capabilities far exceed individual or smaller business needs. The unit ships with a maximum capacity of 600 sheets, which would require frequent paper reloads to meet the output capabilities of this digital imaging system. There are more upgrades to be purchased than there are installed features when it comes to paper handling capacity. This can significantly increase the overall equipment and accessory cost to a point that far exceeds the expected purchase price of the unit itself, cutting into a company's profitability. If more features came standard, an office manager would have more reasons to warrant the cost of the equipment, as it would be a one-time purchase for everything.
INK/TONER NEEDS:
Reasonably priced replacement toner cartridges can be purchased from many suppliers and have a maximum yield of 11,000 pages, guaranteeing low production costs per page and less time spent replacing cartridges when they run low. |
