Kyocera Mita KM-2030 by Rob Jara 10/04/2010 OVERVIEW: The Kyocera Mita KM-2030 is a desktop copier optimized for moderate to high volume production in small to medium-scale offices and businesses. Mainly built as a copier, the Kyocera Mita KM-2030 has optional functions for network printing, scanning and faxing, which should benefit users who prioritize copying needs but also prefer to have such options available to them. With increased paper handling capabilities and optimal performance even for its optional functions, the Kyocera Mita KM-2030 is an inexpensive way to be finely tuned to your office and business needs.
Editor's Pros & Cons
PROS: The Kyocera Mita KM-2030 copier has output speeds of 20 pages per minute for letter types and 10 for ledger ones, with a first copy output of 5.5 seconds, an improvement from Kyocera’s desktop copiers and early multifunction machines. Warm up time for the Kyocera Mita KM-2030 is less than 30 seconds, with a particularly efficient power consumption base. Copier memory is at a standard 64MB, a huge leap from the 16MB memory laced on its predecessors. Copy resolution is maintained though as with previous models at 600 x 600 dots per inch, with Kyocera’s patented Fast 1200 DPI print resolution. Imaging modes are text, photo, text/photo combination, plus the auto, manual and ECO configurations. Another impressive feature is Kyocera Mita KM-2030’s continuous copy capability, which can be up to 250 pages with auto reset to 1, which allows the Kyocera Mita KM-2030 to handle moderately high volume copying. Additional features include Auto Magnification, Book Mode, Combine Image, Erase Mode, Image Rotate, Margin Shift, Interrupt and 100 management codes for better customization of tasks and projects. CONS: With significant improvements made to address volume production, the Kyocera Mita KM-2030 suffered in terms of its size and space-saving function, with its current dimensions measuring 22"W x 24"D x 22"H and weighing 100 lbs, almost double the total of Kyocera’s early version of a multifunction machine, like the KM-1820. Print memory and computing performance did not see significant improvements compared to previous efforts, and the Kyocera Mita KM-2030 may have even suffered in terms of resolution, as Kyocera Mita KM-2030 lacks varied resolution presets as well as a 1% increment for its zoom function, thereby making high quality copies a bit more difficult to achieve.
