Lanier LD-135

OVERVIEW:

The Lanier LD-135 is a multifunction copier released to accommodate busy workgroups’ need for fast and efficient document production. With optional functions for printing, scanning and faxing, the Lanier LD-135 is a suitable office and business companion that will surely improve not only productivity but also the quality that every user needs to have.

PROS:

The Lanier LD-135 has copy speeds of 35 pages per minute, which it does using a CCD scanning and twin laser beam electro-photographic printing for its copying process. The Lanier LD-135 produces copies with a resolution of 600 dpi, modest enough to provide quality text and graphic monochrome copies. Multiple copies for the Lanier LD-135 is up to 999, so simultaneously high volume copies are not a problem. The Lanier LD-135 has effective first copy speed of 4.5 seconds and a very impressive warm up time of 15 seconds, so users who need to have their tasks started right away will be mightily pleased with the Lanier LD-135’s performance. Memory for the copy function is at 64 MB, plus a hard disk drive with a 20GB capacity for virtual storage of tasks and soft copies of documents.

For its paper handling and storage capacity, the Lanier LD-135 possesses impressive features of a standard two 500-sheet tray with a 50-sheet bypass for special media types. It also includes an option to add another two 500-sheet tray, plus a large capacity tray with 1,500 sheets. To further address multiple high volume document production, the Lanier LD-135 includes options for different finishers, with a 1,000-sheet, multi-tray and booklet types that allow the Lanier LD-135 to handle multiple stapling positions. Duplexing is also enabled with limitless capacity for A5 to A3 paper types, and an 80-page automatic reversing document feeder included as optional choice for better document productivity and efficiency.

Optional printing for the Lanier LD-135 has a standard memory of 192 MB and also a 20 GB hard disk drive for additional virtual storage space. Printing speeds are identical with Lanier LD-135’s copy function, while providing different resolutions depending on printer language. Standard support for PCL5e has 300 dpi, PCL6 with 600 dpi, while RCPS has resolutions of 200, 300 and 600 dpi. An option for having Adobe PostScript 3 with 600 dpi resolution is included. Network connectivity for the Lanier LD-135 includes the standard bi-directional IEEE 1284 and Ethernet connectivity, with an optional wireless support for wireless LAN, Bluetooth, IEE 1384 and USB 2.0 interface. Supported environments include Windows and MAC platforms and their corresponding distributions. The Lanier LD-135 print function also has network protocol support for TCP/IP, NetBEUI and AppleTalk.

For its optional scanning function, the Lanier LD-135 is able to produce 52 originals per minute, even significantly faster than copy and print speeds. Resolution is set at 600 dpi, identical to copy resolution, with output formats that include PDF, TIFF and JPEG file types. Destination addresses has a maximum 500 destinations per job, with stored destinations up to 2,000. There is also a maximum of 50 folders for scanning option destinations. Fax option for the Lanier LD-135 has a compatibility with G3 and Internet fax, with a modem speed of 33.6 Kbps. Resolution for the fax function has a standard 200 x 100 dpi, with detailed resolution at 200 dpi. Fast transmission speeds are at approximately 3 seconds, making the Lanier LD-135 competitive at faxing solutions even for a multifunction copier. Memory capacity is set at 8MB, with an option to upgrade up to 32 MB, which also enables memory backup for improved fax efficiency.

CONS:

While possessing impressive features, the Lanier LD-135 is quite bulky and hefty, not the ideal multifunction copier for offices with limited space. With dimensions measuring 670 x 650 x 720 mm and weighing around 79 kilograms, the Lanier LD-135 is pretty large compared to some multifunction machines in the market. Resolution for copy and other optional functions are also not quite impressive with the Lanier LD-135.
