Editor's Pros & Cons
PROS: Top speeds are rated at up to 45 operations per minute, whether it be printing, scanning or copying. An Electrophotographic Imaging System, combined with a Dry Dual Component Development System, provides a user with a print mechanism that will achieve speed, quality, economy and waste reduction. Scanning resolutions can be set up to 600 x 600 dots per inch with software smoothing algorithms, with 256 levels of gradation and heat roller fusing. 128 MB of standard printer memory can be upgraded to a maximum of 384 MB via a 256 MB upgrade module, which is enough memory to handle all business-quality print jobs. A warm up time of 80 seconds or less makes this model slightly quicker than comparable models that average a warm up time of 99 seconds. First copy time for the IM-4511 is 4.4 seconds, with a top speed of a little over 1 second for every page thereafter. Whether it be a one page or a multiple page document, wait times are relatively low, saving precious time in a busy and hectic business environment. An automatic, duplexed, single pass document feeder comes with a capacity of 50 pages that can be loaded into a dual side scanner in a little over one minute for letter size and a minute and a half for legal and ledger sizes. The allowable paper weight range is 15 to 34 pounds. Input features include automatic exposure, job memory, job recall and original size detection, among many others. A standard paper feed tray that holds up to 500 sheets and a 100 sheet bypass tray are included with the base model. Upgrade options include four additional 500 sheet trays and one 2,000 sheet high capacity tray, providing a maximum total paper handling capacity of 3,100 sheets. Transparencies, labels and cards can be fed into a bypass feeder that accommodates heavier and non-standard media stocks. An optional duplex system allows for automatic sorting of documents and print jobs. Supported copy sizes range from 5.5 x 8.5 in. to 11 x 17 in. ledger size. Bypass paper weight ranges from 14 to 110 pounds and duplex paper weight ranges from 15 to 28 pounds. Throughput features include auto paper selection, special paper mode and auto drawer switching. Optional equipment that can be purchased as upgrades are copier and printer memory in 128 and 256 MB modules, 40 GB hard drive, fax board, 8 MB fax memory, network scanning and a data security kit. Fax features are also optional, with a 33.6 Kbps modem that can transmit pages at less than 3 seconds per page for letter size. 2 MB of standard fax memory can store 240 pages of scanned facsimiles and an upgrade option of up to 10 MB can store approximately 1,200 pages. Over 300 auto-dialing locations and auto exposure settings make faxing documents easy. With many possible upgrade options and many possible custom configurations, this machine is designed to accommodate many different types of businesses and business needs. CONS: No USB support makes direct connectivity very difficult. Most newer computers with Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems are not set up to easily configure a parallel printer interface. The difference between standard and optional features is really large, finding medium sized businesses in the position where they don't have enough features on the base model but don't need very many of the extras. Other models in the same class have more capacities that come standard. Customer Reviews For Pitney Bowes IM-4511
